Celebrating World Environment Day

Posted on 5 June 2019
On Wednesday 5 June, St Columba's celebrated and raised awareness of World Environment Day.

This year the theme for the day was Beat Air Pollution.

There are many contributors to pollution of our precious air and it's our job to reduce our impact on the environment to keep our air clean and safe.

We began our day by riding, scooting, walking or taking public transport to school, with nearly 100 students and teachers participating.

Aiming to reduce our waste, we made our very own beeswax wraps which can be used over and over again to wrap food items. We can't wait to use them at school and home in our lunchboxes!

Lots of classes also undertook a litter collection. The preps tackled the school yard, with the 1/2s and 5/6s soon to take on the local streets and canal
.
The 3/4 Eco warriors ventured over to Elsternwick Park for a session with an educator from the EcoCentre to conduct bird surveys and research for their ongoing projects.

Thanks to everyone who helped coordinate and took part in a very active and fun World Environment Day!

What our parents & students say

"St Columba's is known as the little school with the big heart and you notice that when you first arrive. Every teacher and every student knows your child by name. They offer bespoke learning experiences for children to enjoy while at school."
