Green Team Plant Stall a blooming success!
The Green Team's plant stall raised nearly $1000 at our recent Centenary Fete thanks to the wonderful plant donations received from parents and Bunnings.

The stall featured everything from edible Christmas trees to cute cactus jars and our famous Saintly Soil.

St Columba's welcomes the eels at the inaugural eel-wood festiv-eel!
A large bunch of enthusiastic eel spotters gathered together last Friday night to welcome the eels as they migrated along the canal.

The night started with a screening of the Baykeepers movie and a talk with Baykeepers from the Port Phillip Eco Centre, Neil and April. The spotters then set off with their torches and travelled up the Elwood Canal/Elster Creek spotting around a dozen eels on their journey.

Last week we were all very excited to learn that our school was awarded its fifth star for the Sustainability Certification. This means that our school is now a 5 Star ResourceSmart School and has met all the requirements of the Leadership Star Level.

Join us at the St Columba's Festiv-eel

Next term our St Columba's Green Team will be working with the Eco Warriors to host a special Festiv-eel on Friday 19th October at 6:30pm.

This is a free event where we will be showcasing a DVD titled BayKeepers, created by the Eco Centre.

This film aims to raise awareness of the local urgent problem of plastic in our marine environment and hopefully inspire a call to action.

Eco Warriors learn about mosquitoes in our environment

On Wednesday 19th October, the Year 3/4s had a special guest speaker named Peter Mee. He came in to talk to us about mosquitoes.

Peter is a scientist that works for the state government where he researches mosquitoes. He talked about how they live, grow and how they impact people.

Sustainable Schools Festival: St Columba's wins 2018 Baykeeper Award!

Last Thursday, the Sustainability team went to the Sustainable School's Festival, hosted by the Port Phillip Eco Centre at the St Kilda Town Hall.

We firstly participated in 2 workshops each and all the activities were related to sustainability. We made zen gardens, organic bin liners, played penguin fact games, sorted out food for worms and created friendship bracelets out of recycled wool.
