Last week we were all very excited to learn that our school was awarded its fifth star for the Sustainability Certification. This means that our school is now a 5 Star ResourceSmart School and has met all the requirements of the Leadership Star Level.

Next term our St Columba's Green Team will be working with the Eco Warriors to host a special Festiv-eel on Friday 19th October at 6:30pm.
This is a free event where we will be showcasing a DVD titled BayKeepers, created by the Eco Centre.

On Wednesday 19th October, the Year 3/4s had a special guest speaker named Peter Mee. He came in to talk to us about mosquitoes.
Peter is a scientist that works for the state government where he researches mosquitoes. He talked about how they live, grow and how they impact people.

Last Thursday, the Sustainability team went to the Sustainable School's Festival, hosted by the Port Phillip Eco Centre at the St Kilda Town Hall.
We firstly participated in 2 workshops each and all the activities were related to sustainability. We made zen gardens, organic bin liners, played penguin fact games, sorted out food for worms and created friendship bracelets out of recycled wool.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to St Columba's for achieving their 4th Star this week!
This great milestone acknowledges that we are a Sustaining school in relation to our waste management and resource use. Together, we have completed the 5 required modules and so now we continue to revise and update them. Here's a quick snapshot; we've saved: $13,110.62 since 01 Dec 2012 $82.43 per student The Eco Warriors and the Environment Team have played a great part in helping us ...

On Wednesday 8 August we were back in the garden again with our Eco Warriors putting their green thumbs to work planting our new bird garden (located outside the front of the school).
Locally indigenous tubestock with Boon Wurrung significance was planted to develop a supporting habitat for our local bird species.
