On Wednesday 5 June, St Columba's celebrated and raised awareness of World Environment Day.
This year the theme for the day was Beat Air Pollution.
There are many contributors to pollution of our precious air and it's our job to reduce our impact on the environment to keep our air clean and safe.

Drum roll... St Columba's has been nominated as a School of the Year finalist in the 2019 ResourceSmart School Awards!
The Awards recognise and reward the outstanding sustainability efforts of Victorian primary and secondary schools that contribute to a better place.
Winners are being announced on the 13th June at a ceremony being held at the MCG. Three of our sustainability representatives from Grades 4, 5 and 6 will be attending on the school's behalf.

The Grade 3/4 Eco Warriors recently went on a local excursion around our beautiful waterways here in Elwood. Specifically, they focussed on Elster Creek and how this could have looked before European settlement. The students were also joined by 'Captain Trash' who helped the students, along with Sharron, to understand how and why our suburb often experiences floods, and what we can do in the future to reduce this.

Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who assisted with planting our garden at the end of Term 1. The garden beds are looking flush with growing veggies and herbs! The students cannot wait to get in there and harvest, plant, cok and tend to the garden. A special thanks goes out to Bunnings who kindly provided us with the plants for our veggie garden and the wonderful members of the Green Team who volunteered their time and efforts.

On Thursday we rolled out the green carpet and welcomed the Keep Victoria Beautiful judge to assess our entry into the 2019 Sustainable Cities Awards.
