Student Wellbeing

Student Wellbeing is at the heart of all that we do at St Columba's and it is one of the things we are best known for! Central to our success in this area is the fact that we know your child as an individual and as a learner.  Wellbeing permeates all aspects of school life here. We see wellbeing as a shared responsibility, prioritising relationships between staff, students, and parents.  We focus on developing a culture of positivity, belonging, inclusiveness, collaboration, and agency.
Wellbeing concepts such as resilience, growth mindset, and emotional regulation are explored in many ways at our school. They form a part of our social and emotional lessons, circle times and, where relevant, units of inquiry. Threads of these concepts can also be seen throughout our morning prayer time, regular mindful meditations, and learning engagements across the curriculum.

In 2023 we are very pleased to launch 'The Resilience Project'  at St Columba's. The Resilience Project’s Partnership Program supports the wellbeing of the whole school community and builds positive school culture.

Our wellbeing practices are also informed by the Berry St. Model, the Be You initiative, the Bounce Back resources, the development of the IB learner profile, the E-Smart principles, and the work around VIA character strengths.

Across the school students are also involved in a number of Wellbeing events. These include Mindfulness Mondays, Wellbeing Week, the Friendship Fair, Footy Colours Day, the annual Ride to School Breakfast, whole school Fun Days, and Life-saving.
As a part of our focus on Wellbeing, we also offer thorough transition programs. These include the Prep Orientation and Transition program and the Year 6 to Secondary School Transition program. In addition, new students at any year level are supported in their transition through teacher guidance and a buddy system.

What our parents & students say

"St Columba's offers so much more than just an excellent education program. When you enrol your child at St Columba's you join the vibrant supportive community. We couldn't be happier at St Columba's."
