Wellbeing News

What’s happening in Wellbeing around our school?

We began term 2 with Wellbeing Week and a big, school wide focus on Bouncing Back and Fairness. Some of the important messages that children will be learning about this term are included in the BOUNCEBACK acronym:

Bad times don’t last, things always get better. Stay optimistic.

Other people can help if you talk to them.

Unhelpful thinking makes you feel more upset.

Nobody is perfect

Concentrate on the positives

Everybody experiences sadness, hurt, failure, rejection and setbacks sometimes, not just you. They are a normal part of life.

Blame fairly

Accept what can’t be changed (but try to change what you can first)

Catastrophising exaggerates your worries.

Keep things in perspective

The Friendship Fair

What a fantastic way to end a term with our very first Friendship Fair! There was a great deal of excitement with the collaboration, planning, organizing and running of the class stalls. Children were all engaged in the fair, spending time with friends, having fun and experiencing a strong sense of connectedness to their school. Some comments from our students:

It was lots of fun – Ruby

I won some Uno cards in the Lucky Dip – Leo

I loved the crazy cookies – Elke

It was for everybody – Rex

Being all together – Zara P

Everyone worked together well – Hugh B

I had a really good time with my friend Phoenix – Max M

I liked throwing sponges at Miss Maddalena! – Freya

It was exciting that we got to see all the stalls – Lachie B

It was creative and I liked getting to have with my friends – Charlize

It was a good idea that the whole school could have fun – Dexter

My favourite stall was Andy’s because you could get icypoles and honey joys! – Maddock

It gave me a chance to meet new friends – Arcadia

I liked being part of my class working on the nail painting – Archie M

Playground Leaders

Our year 5 students are back on Thursdays at lunchtime to run playground games for our younger children. They can be easily identified by the big smiles bright fluoro vests that they wear.

The year 1/2 children have begun a series of yoga sessions this term. The sessions run each Friday afternoon with children having some learning new skills including postures, chants, meditation and relaxation.

Peaceful Kids

The Peaceful Kids program began again this term on Friday mornings. Some of our 3/4 children take part in the mindfulness program for 8 weeks learning strategies to cope with stress and anxiety. We ran the program for the first time last year with great success for the students involved.
