On Saturday, a bunch of St Columba’s students and parents donned their fluorescent vests and gardening gloves and set off with tongs and bags to collect garbage around the streets of Elwood.
Fifteen volunteers in total collected 11 shopping bags of litter – including 373 cigarette butts and 64 bottles and cans. The majority of the litter was small items which would have washed into the bay in the next downpour.
At the end of the clean-up hour we were all rewarded with a delicious chocolate cake to celebrate one year of the Love Our Streets 3184 initiative.
Happy birthday Love Our Streets 3184 and well done team!
Diary note: Love Our Streets 3184’s next clean up is scheduled for 17 December 9.30-10.30 at the Tennyson Street Precinct – cnr Tennyson and Scott Streets.
